Yeah I was thinking about having some sort of massive explosion blowing up the top half of building 2 and if I can do it, possibly having the flames from the explosion chase them through the 2nd skybridge

Yeah I was gonna do it, and those are called cubicles
But hey, send me a PM thrash with some of your experience wether its 2d art, or map design in hammer and i'll consider it.

I have no experience with either, just a good mind for map ideas haha.
Once I actually get L4D PC, I will start making maps.

I don't have the game, since I'm dead broke. But I can use Gimp to make 2d wall designs for you.

Do what alan said, but if you have any other source games installed, you can make maps using CSS/HL2 textures.

Well, after finally reading through this whole thread I'm surprised I didn't see one thing;
You said that you must cross the first skybridge at the 25th level because the 26th is blocked off by rubble, right. But that's one thing that really shits me in games and movies; the floor that is blocked off in buildings is always the one that has the escape route on it.
So, basically my suggestion would have the 26th or 27th floor being the last ones meaning that the group has to get back to the skybridge.
I've never been one for enjoying the ample 'conveniences' in the horror genre.
Just an idea

It's a good one. Though it will only be effective the first time around. The second time a person plays through the level they'll just go straight for the skybridge. Sure, for the sake of principle it's a fantastic idea, but is it worth designing two extra floors for?
Edit: A realization: You could place a room with weapons or health on ex. the 27th floor, so people are more likely to go up there and then come down to the skybridge.

I have HL2: Deathmatch and HL2: Lost Coast, I only got them for Garry's mod, but can I use Hammer if I have them?

yes you can, just go to tools and install the source sdk, then choose hl2dm/hl2mp as the game

this has so much potential. i love maps that go vertical. but please devote a lot of thought to the architecture and visual appearance. too many skyscraper maps are all copy-pasted. with this many floors you need as much variety as possible. a massive structure like this this could be really stunning if done right. best of luck.

Would be sweet to see some spiral staircase action. not a tight one, but that follows the perimeter of the room. So you can see the zombies (lots of) running up after you.

That's an epic idea Weapuh... A room that has a 4 or 5 storey high roof with a staircase/causeway thing that goes up and around the walls... Would be awesome to look down from the middle level and see the whole room filled with infected and a mob of them running up the stairs towards you...

I'm looking into the PayPal thing. I think I'll link it to my bank account or something.
And thanks Alan, I would greatly appreciate that.
Just gotta find a way to have other people help me with the purchase. I'll update you guys soon.
Plus: I'm trying things out in Gimp, and trying to get the same design as the game for textures and surfaces. It's going good, just trying to match the game's gritty feel as much as possible.

You could make a floor one of those big indoor gardens with big trees and bushes and shit, and for a couple floors up the offices will look down on it like a courtyard. Lots of room for smokers to hide. I'm not sure if you could manage it, but you could have one of the skybridges be rickety and drop down a level on one end diagonally and scare the piss out of the survivors.

On the same note as the spiral stair case, how about a massive staircase *wide and whatnot*, similar to what you would see in movie mansions. This staircase would be able to look down onto a room in which there were thousands of milling zombies *exaggeration*. You could also have an event where when you walk into the room there is some sort of thing you step on/trigger that causes all the infected to focus on you, and you see them charge up the stairs. Think the escalator/stairway on dead air... but much much worse.
