Progress - 3%

STATUS UPDATES -
11/21/08 @4:54am
I have begun working on the map in hammer, although unable to use l4d textures atm until I figure out how to import them, or the SDK is released, I am currently working with CSS and HL2 Textures/Models. Everything will be retextured using L4D Textures and Models once I get them working.
EDIT: I am now able to use L4D Materials in hammer thanks to Gibbed's VPK Extractor =]

This is a map I'm working on now, involving two twin towers linked together by two sky bridges at the 25th and 50th floors the towers have also been slightly damaged due to the zombie infestation. It's approx 75 stories tall. You start at the bottom of the 1st tower, make your way to the 25th floor of building #1 cross the bridge [floors 26-49 in building one are blocked off by fallen rubble] Make your way to the 50th floor of building two, cross back over and then make your way to the roof of building 1 to be have your final stand and be rescued by a helicopter.

I need some more ideas for the map, I've got the basic concept and such, but I want everyone to submit an idea for each floor, I want each floor to be different, reflecting different departments a normal business would have. Or seperate businessess all together.

Another idea that just popped into my head.. Maybe putting those window washer hanging platforms outside some windows for equipment etc..

I've also got a nice idea for an apartment complex complete with pool, playground, office and surrounding stores, but thats for after this map.

Great idea! We often forget or dismiss the vertical and focus on the horizontal. Seeing this take off would be fantastic.

Yeah i was readin a post, and for some reason 9/11 popped in my head, so i decided to make a map similar to the twin towers. [hence the map name.]

Just working on concepts right now and ideas atm, till the full game is released and i can use the actual L4D Configuration for the Source SDK. which will be in approx 14-18 hours.

just as an overall idea, i think that you should always have the option to do either stairs or elevator to ge up higher, if possible. That way you have a choice between infected flooding down the stairs, or having the door open to a huge group of infected (if the Director decides to do so, of course)

naturally, you can't take the elevator/stairs up more than one level (hidden elevators/stairs maybe that lets you skip levels too?) without going to its opposing stairwell/elevator on this floor. Otherwise you could just take the elevator to the top!

Edit: Also, an idea that just occurred to me, make the safe rooms basically like coffee break rooms like you'd find in an office place. That way your "safe room" is the room that people come to take a breather, have a smoke break, and drink a nice beverage of choice in the middle of the work day (in our case, smashing infected).

I just got an idea for you, though I don't know if it would work on the Source engine. How about on one floor the stairs are collapsed, so you need to ride one of those window washer things to the next floor?

it is possible as in no mercy they have a lift that goes up, so im sure i could do it.

ii like the mailing room deperatment idea and i think im gonna have it use up an entire like 2-3 floors, one for delivery, one for processing, and one for like the offices but i think im only gonna have writing on the walls at the start of the map, and in the safe room halfway thru the towers

i like all these ideas except the hidden elevator to the top part, that'd make the map far to short and to easy, and would defeat the entire map. making it pointless and no one would play it..

edit: sorry misread that. thought u were suggesting an elevator to the top. but yeah i might hide some stairs or ladder or something, probably a vent shaft going up

yeah, im probably going to make some custom graphics to throw into the map, seperate image for each contributors name somewhere in 'their' floor, to show they contributed.
