Hideo Kojima wants to make a Zombie MMO

Ooohhh..... This looks interesting.

The fourth Metal Gear Solid is still in the in the middle of construction, but series mastermind Hideo Kojima is already brainstorming his next game, an pay-to-play online game where you hand over cash in exchange for stumbling around as a zombie.

"The zombie idea I have is a bit different," he told our colleagues at Edge magazine. "Imagine a large town where half the inhabitants are zombies. Users would subscribe, get inside the town and get bitten. At that stage they become undead and can't control their character - all they can do is modify the camera angles... They'd see their character attacking humans and have to pay just to watch!" [ehm... not the best idea you've had.

Sounds... erm, expensive. Kojima continues: "The only way they could end it is by opening another account, hunting themselves down and killing themselves. Of course, the problem is that your second character can get bitten as well."

It's nice to know Mr. Kojima is thinking about original game concepts rather than churning out MGS for the rest of his days (we wouldn't complain), though how well this pay-to-play (or should that be pay-to-not-play?) concept will hold up we're not sure.

That sounded good until the red highlighted bit... That would be gay. I'm sorry but I officially shun this idea and have officially lost all respect for Kojima... Not that I even knew who he was but still...

Not being able to control your character wouldn't work as an MMO. No one is going to pay around $15/month and not be able to play their character because three days in he/she was bitten. Nor are they going to continue to pay to "watch" that now turned NPC character roam around. Well I wouldn't, guess I can't speak for everyone.

The idea itself of a zombie MMO remains awesome and I'm sure there will eventually be one (I remember a long time ago there were talks of a Resident Evil MMO) but it's still very much on the drawing board. Hideo Kojima would probably be the last person I'd select to create an MMO.

A friend and I have a pretty good idea for a zombie MMO, and it does not require not playing as the zombie, but playing as one. Too bad it's just a dream and without money (we're poor students) it won't ever come to be

Really? Is this the same guy behind the MGS masterpieces? This is the stupidest idea for an MMO I've heard...and I've played WoW!

Note: I actually liked the Warcraft games though...

Is. He. Really. SERIOUS!? This sounded like the worst attempt to rip off gamers since... well, this is really the first real rip off.

Open an account on Kojima's MMO, and within three hours your bitten. That's it, done, destroyed, devoured. So then you have a choice: Continuasly watch your new character turned zombie wander aimlessly around, which is like watching Night of the Living Dead with the zombies as the protagonists. Or, spend more money and open another shitty account to kill your old character.

I'm sorry, but that idea is more ridiculous then when some extremists decided Left 4 Dead invoked Satan.

It's not at this point in my life. Maybe if I quit games, but I don't see that happening :P.

I'm in my last semester at school and I start working right after, so I don't envision a lot of free time to give these ideas enough attention. I am a programmer, but game programming is a bit more intense then simple apps. And by the end of the school day, I just want to PLAY them.

But ya, still just the thought that he WANTS to make one gets me excited. Because if they make one professionally, then they would take out his stupid idea because it is...well...stupid.

Thats old but the latest rumor is his next project is going to be a survival horror.

On a side note he works at Konami the developer that owns the Silent Hill IP. A Silent Hill return to glory anyone?

lemme get this straight...I pay for an account that does hardly anything to begin with, he WILL get bitten eventually...I pay for a second account because I can't stop paying for my first one so I can kill him and remove the account...rinse and repeat...I'm not buying it!

a survival semi-mmo based in a post zombocolypse wasteland is something that could be a lot of fun. Having it take place lets say, 25 years or so after the "event" would make it interesting as food and water would be scarce and the living would be outnumbered substantially. Not sure which perspective would work best for this. 1st person really isn't that popular in MMo settings, though I could see it working best for this game. Having safe houses that "guilds" or whatever you MMO nerds call them that can be fought over would be kinda neat. Throw in a few fallout style vendors and we'd have ourselves a good time!

I've had it with these japanese mmo's, so I ain't touching this until I get proof it's not just the same old generic free MMO with the same UI, the same boring graphics and gameplay.

You have obviously never played a Hideo Kojima game. Regardless its 99% unlikely to happen as he is already hard at work on two non-MMO games at the present.
