"Survival Mode"

All,

Do any of you remember Unreal Tournament 2004 (I think anyways) it had a game scenario where the monsters just kept coming in timed waves. Each wave lasted longer and longer with increasingly more difficult monsters. The whole point was just to kill as many monsters as possible and last as long as you could.

I think L4D needs a game scenario like that as well. Sort of like an "endless last stand" and the game would keep track of how long you and your friends could last and how many zombies you killed before you all died. It would make for a good competition, people could post their team scores (time lasted and zombies killed in that time).

In my mind the arena should be large and pretty much open with every survivor starting with the 1st tier weapons, some pipe bombs, an ammo cache and 1 med pack and pills a piece. Then after 4 or 5 waves you should be allowed to upgrade to the 2nd tier weapons.

The purpose is simple...to last as long as possible....thoughts???

I'm certain we will see at least one map of this sort, although that means no official support like survival achievements. Still, it ought to be fun. It would probably work even with the original final confrontation maps, since obviously very much thought went into keeping them balanced and well designed.

In all honesty I couldn't give a shit about the achievements. I've had the game for less than a week and I already have well over half of them. Personally I get my enjoyment being knee deep in blood and guts and that is the type of game play that a "survival mode" would provide.

There is just something special about the horde bearing down on me that I can't get enough of!!!

Survival mode could be fun. It doesn't strike me as something that'd work well with Versus though >_>

I'm all for that; it would make a great Co-Op alternative.

That sounds like fun... something that would probably just be a human co-op rather than versus. It might be easy to do as well...
