Hey, fellow users!

This is a warning from us here at the forums' staff to you;

We've had several attempts already at scams, either by trying to get you to "join a steam group" or getting stuff (and impersonating Valve employees).

I'd like to put a shout out to the users who are quick to report this - thank you for helping us!

Here is a few tips: Click here 4 keylogginz lolz gl0d n free stuffz <-- Always check in the bottom of your browser what it says about the link you're hovering your mouse over. Scammers will claim their link is to "free stuff" for L4D for instance, that "they have problems getting downloaded to you", or just that it's the link to their Steampowered Group page.

In this case, it's a relatively harmless (If a little nausea-inducing if taken in too great doses) link.

Be aware that there is a market to be had by scamming your Steam account away from you, if not on as big a scale as there is for MMORPG accounts.

You should typically stay away from sites that end in suspicious things such as !!!!!!!!, as this is the type of ending we've had so far in the attempts at scamming our users so far.

Remember, a Valve employee would never ever ask for your password / screen name, and you should never give those away to anyone, not even your best buddies! (And neither will we, but we aren't Valve employees ).

On a personal note, I use Mozilla Firefox with the NoScript addon. Just be aware that no matter what precautions you take, there is always someone trying to override them, or pass them by (OMG THE INTERTUBES!...But seriously, though ).

Update!

The people trying to do nasty things to our Steam accounts are now also using .col.nu endings, trying to get us to go to a Steamcommunity fake site.

https://steamcommunity.com

http://www.l4d.com

http://store.steampowered.com/ (also without the store thing. But it seems to automatically get you there when you enter steampowered.com).

In addition, all our legit unofficial L4D websites are http://www.left4deadforums.com and http://www.left4deadfiles.com at the moment.

Remember, remember not to trust unknown endings on urls - .col.nu as well as the older one which now gets censored here on the site.

Just be aware that i was contacted by two different people that saw that i played left 4 dead.
The first person called he could "unlock" more games on my account like he did on his own.
I played along and tried to give him another account i had which had only 1 $5 game on it
I gave him legit access codes and stuff.
I then found out he had changed the details and then decided to come back to me and say want me to add the games onto your other account aswell.. Cheeky...

So i change the details back and reported the user to Steam.

The 2nd attempt at my account was on Xfire. This guy was telling me he would send me $50 on paypal if he let me have the Left4Dead from my account, because he was having problems with steam...
So i told him that you cant split games from account and he said he had a program that allowed him on to remove it...

I wasnt falling for it.

I asked for his details on steam to add as a friend. Then reported him

There is a addon going round for MSNPLUS for those that use it.
Its called huhuctrl It allows users to control your pc.

So dont trust anyone not originally on your friends list.

if best, look for a packet/port monitoring software, have it running, also a process monitor, they will both monitor all activity happening and log it. if anything comes up bad happens to you, check back on those, or send the log to a professional they will be able to find out what it is and have you remove it / fix it. if its a port being accessed, the ip accessing it will be logged, and you can have a professional trace it back to its source and report the ip to the police.

As I have found in my time, If its too good to be true... It normally is.

There was a few people mentioning how they lost there WoW gold & gear becuase some random stranger wispered them and offered "Free Powerleveling 70-80" i was also wispered but I reported this to the GM's

For me personally no-one at all knows any of my Login's Forums, Games, steam ect ect. In this day and age you cannot be too careful and there is plenty of preditors out there ready, willing and able to take advantage of you.
