New special infected ideas
I have some ideas for new infected, such as:
The Sleeper:he is very quick, will sleep until you attack it, comes in groups of 5-10, main fire is teleport, secondary fire is put you to sleep, can only teleport 10-20 feet, looks exactly like a survivor, about as strong as a smoker. The sleep attack will make it seem like a hunter is on you, but there isnt and the screen will go black for 10 seconds, because you are asleep.
--
I'm sorry I'm not very good at names... But the Flyer will be like a Pterodactyl
except more human-like. It's main attack is the normal claw slash. It's secondary attack is flying, flying has a cooldown though, it can only fly for 10 seconds and then it falls until it hits the ground, or dies. Once it lands, it has to wait 2 seconds to be able to fly again, it has to be on the ground to be able to load its secondary attack. It's third attack (middle mouse button) could be dropping a poisonous egg.
--
Darkie: would be exactly like a hunter, except it is completely invisible other than having a shadow.
--
Ghosty: It would be Invisible, cannot attack, takes over other infected, can move through objects, and fly. It can even control a tank, cannot control real people. It can only die inside of a body.
--
Please post any ideas you might have.

How old are you?
No offense but these aren't that great towards the effects of the game and making it "balanced". Although I do give you credit for trying and throwing your suggestions out which in turn gives many other people ideas that could ultimately turn into the next great special!
The invisible characters would be impossible to kill, hence how can it have a shadow being invisible? Also how did the infection make all the other humans, into rampaging "normal" zombies and these invisible? Plus when you are getting attacked by a horde of 100's of zombies, you wont be able to see the "Darkie"...
Flying zombies would be, unrealistic, and too hard to mess with, again in a horde..
The sleeper is an ok idea, but maybe revise it, such as instead of teleporting you which is unrealistic again. There will be a group of these "sleepers" sleeping on the ground until you wake them. When you do that, they rush at you and, lets say, do something to make you go asleep? Maybe cough on you or something? Or they can just rush you like a witch does, but lower health because of the group of them.
I don't know. Special infected ideas are hard to come by to make the game even and realistic. You want to relate the zombies towards real life things. A fat person that gets infected turns into a boomer, a skinny, anorexic girl turns into the witch, a buff guy turns into a tank, etc...

Dude.... The flying zombies could be birds or owls or something that got horrible radiation and so they transformed big and a little human-like.... im 12 years old my bro came up with darkie
--
and i was telling my brother darkie shud be like a shadow or something only on walls that can only attack you close-range in otherwords if your crouded against wall it will attack you and (like the smoker and hunter) only an ally can kill it, it blinds you with darkness like it's devouring you.... i dont know what that cud be in real life tho...

Ok if it's an animal that would be better! Sounds like a great idea to me now! You could have a flock of infected birds flying around you guys, just like in Resident Evil: Extinction!
I like your ideas though, it gives us the basis of some great zombies that can be added in.

Like I said before the game is meant to be as realistic as possible!
What kind of "normal" human would turn into and invisible zombie?
Also they would not make it only show the shadow, that's... weird, but if they made it so the zombie was semi-invisible, maybe you can see it's outline or hes just clear. You can see his inside and stuff, lol.

yeah, i also saw one on another forum
Name: The Puppeteer
Appearance: A hospital patient at the time of his infection. He was recovering from a severe accident. The infection allows him to walk freely but much of the equipment is still on him. Metallic leg brace and those scray looking head clamps used on neck or spine injury victims (the ones with the support rods going up from shoulder pads then the screws which secure the skull. When infected the zombies split part of his skull open exposing brain and his throat has been ripped out. So no burping or growling from this guy. His metallic leg brace scraps and screaches across the ground letting you know he's near by.
Special Ability(ies): He has the ability to spawn hordes on command. Like the Boomer with his bile though no projectile vomit needed. If startled like a witch you'll typically get his horde attack but if you're loud or in obvious like of sight you can expect one too. As the Puppeteer he manages to keep 4-5 drone infected around him. If he moves they follow but as soon as he stops they form a defensive ring around him.
Physical Features: The hospital gown, braces, wounds and standard zombifacation. 1 interesting detail is just prior to him summoning a horde (if you're close enough) you'll see a spurt of blood spray from his exposed brain.
Availability to Players: Yes.
Health (compare to existing infected): He's slow and weak like a Boomer.
Name: Roadkill
Appearance: Former punk rock bicycle messenger complete with mohawk
Special Ability(ies): He's a notch above an ordinary infected but with more motivation like a hunter. His attack is different because he assualts your with his arm, HIS severed left arm which he wields like a bat with his still attached right arm!!!
Physical Features: A large portion of his upper lip and nose are missing, possibly from being ripped off when the infected which spawned him got a hold of his facial piercings. He laughs manically to himself.
Availability to Players: YES! He can run fast like an ordinary infected. Left click is his melee attack using his arm as a bat. Right click he throws the arm. After throwing his own arm he can rip a new one off from a fellow infected (that of course kills them but gives him another weapon)
Health (compare to existing infected): He's thick skinned and would be a couple points above a hunter. A partial shotgun blast or 3 round M-16 burst wouldn't do much. A good headshot or solid concentration of fire would drop him.

sounds pretty cool!

i mean the puppeteer is cooler, but still

I got a weird sense of deja vu reading this.
Moved it from the initiation center to here, though
Them thar people in the initiation center don't take kindly to people with ideas!

we have a similar thread already:
http://left4deadforums.com/181-if-yo...-infected.html
i don't mean to be rude though, but i reckon what you want is not going to be made by Valve.
They are just infected, they didn't develop the ability to dislocate molecules and teleport or dissolve them themself to be invisible.
the "darkie" suggestion would simply be overkill. Since all the areas are mainly pitch black, a "darkie" can easily go anywhere without ever being seen and if he gets hit, what to shoot? there's nothing there.
Ghosty will simply never work.
If it can take over infected, but has the hp of a boomer that makes every infected he takes over completely worthless. Also, what's the point in taking over aninfected?
it's a really void concept imo. A ghost that doesn't do a single thing takes over a tank, than the ghost disappaers and you have a "possesed tank" that does exactly the same. There is no use in that
The flyer seems reasonable, except for the poison egg. That's turning L4D into Disney World

nice for the flyer thing
and with the ghosty it cud just be a spirit that somehow got infected or something
Ghosty cant leave a body, it pretty much just lets u play anything u want
You cant be a tank unless nobody controls it

Im sorry but all of these idea's are completly ridiculous. None of them would bring any real gameplay value to the game and all it would do is create a biased game which happens to be in the favor of the infected. If you want a shitty un balanced zombie game, then please go ahead and implement these idea's. Sorry if i sound like as asshole but none of what you say fits with the L4D universe.

I'm not sure about new infected, maybe something that slows the survivors down alot but without comprimising the boomer (spider web?). The only realistic thing I would really like to have in game would be a revolver, maybe something like the one from MGS3 or the Dark Tower series. Do you feel lucky?

It's not about having brilliant idea's. The point is to get an idea that will make the game more fun without compromising the balance. An idea that doesn't add anything to the game like the OP suggested isn't worth adding. The only real value of this post is that maybe we can expand on the idea's suggested or even use them but modify them to keep a good balance. Also, when you suggest an idea for a game, the main thing is to make sure your idea fits in with the style of the game. Flying zombies does not fit in with this game.
If it were a huge flock of infected birds attacking that could be realistic/fun and balanced.

LOL.
So yeah, after giving a quick run down of all the ideas and suggestions, I believe the zombies are fine the way they are. Again, they are just normal people like you and I so once "infected", other than being fast and mad, I don't really see the infections giving them invisbility and such. With the idea of animals, I do agree in terms of...where are the dogs? I'd assume or hoped that there would be infected dogs cause that seems a little more realistic in everyday life.
But yeah, I think after a few months, players are going to want new "infected" to shoot down along with new levels and etc.
When thinking of an idea for an infected...be realistic...come on now. =\

OK.... so they are ridiculous.
I still think they are cool!

I also think new levels would be good. There are only 5 levels in each campaign! There should be atleast 10. That way the game won't get so boring.

Name: Mad Doctor
Place: Hospitol areas in No Mercy Campaign
What it does: Left click makes the Mad Doctor stab using a bloodied scalpel... while a right click stabs the intended victim with a syringe filled with "bad stuff" that drains the life of the victim at a slow but frightening pace... causes the victim to have blurry vision. Effect can be slowed down with pain pills or medipack.
I think it should only occur once or twice every hospitol map... sounds kinda cool huh?
