Whatever you do, DON'T come to Michigan. You won't find a job anywhere here with the auto industry failing like it is. Plus, if you get a house here, you won't find anyone to sell it to so you will be stuck here. Also, it's kinda boring here.

New Hampshire is pretty cool. On the southern boarder you have your larger towns and cities and to the north, its small and quite. But if its the city life you want. Then I say Boston. Its a very friendly city to be in, as long as you aren't a yankees fan... lol

Pretty sure I have some realatives over there anyway, not in the states I want to live in but that's not a problem anywhere is a start.

Sorry - that's not the case. You wont be able to work legally full stop on a tourist visa (there isn't an actual visa for UK citizens - we're part of the visa waiver program but in essence it's the same deal as a tourist visa). The best you could hope for would be to use the three months to find a company that would be willing to sponsor you. You would then have to return to the UK and apply for the relevant visa.
If you just want to leave the UK and are not that bothered about where to, then i would suggest Australia or New Zealand. They both have working holiday visa categories that would allow you to work legally for six months ( you can stay in the country for 12 months). This would give you lots of time to find a company that would sponsor you.
In general it's a lot easier to get into these countries than the US (which has become very difficult to get into in recent times). It is even possible that you might meet the points criteria for migration already (there are points for age, education, profression etc.). This would depend very much on what you do for a job (or decide to do in the future). For example Austrialia used to be crying out for air-conditioning engineers (for obvious reasons) and if this was your profression you were almost guaranteed to get citizenship (unless you were also a child murdering, air-con engineer).

Yeah true but you're used to it. If you've come form the UK, with the free at the point of call NHS, it would be pretty scary to all of a sudden be in a position where there is no health care.

Agreed. Unless you're a gypsy in which case staying in one place is bad for your mental health.

Save yourself the sorrow and stay in the UK. America blows, california asks for way too much $ to live there. If you smoke bud then go right ahead and choose cali. The east isn't bad and I prefer it better than the west. On the west side you have alot of natural disasters.
