L4d Runing Fine, suddenly not long load times
Whole story in a nutshell is this: Been playing just fine for 7 months. No problems other then typical windows crashing. Yesterday, all of a sudden load times are 5 min+ and game play is ridiculously slow. I've tried this in both single and multiplayer. Cant even get into a server because the load screen appears to freeze and when alt-tabbed, and ctrl alt del, says that it is not responding. suddenly just kick back into loading and eventually loads. While in game, the play is unbearably slow.
Here is my DXDIAG info:

Thing is, it's happening in single player. I reinstalled the game; problem persists. Also tried several of the sticky fixes: multi core disabled, defraging game cahe and system HD, etc. No dice.

ok, reinstalled steam, which also promted me to reinstall l4d again. same thing is happening. Starts just fine, but when i go to load a campaign in single player or start to load a game in multiplayer, it freezes at 50% then about 2 minutes later loads the game. when in the game, it is really choppy and seems to freeze slightly every 2 seconds

Try lowering your screen resolution to 1024x768 or so and see if that helps. Maybe 1680 is just too high for your system.

OK, then just for some more giggles, try rolling you driver back to the 178 version and see if it makes a difference.

Ok, I rolled back the driver to 178. Still getting the same result... any other suggestions? They would be much appreciated.

Check your ram. Make sure you don't have something going on? Also, did you download any porn recently?

one of the first things I've checked. I used a RAM checker to verify it's integrity. Passed all three stress tests. As far as the pr0n goes, none recently.

I have monitors on both of those. They are well within manufacturing tolerances.
Showing FPS's... found that if i dont move the mouse, I get almost 60 fps... Once I start moving, drops to 12 fps

No, it just randomly happened. I tried downloading new video drivers and all these other ones after it had problems but nothing fixed it. I've even reinstalled L4D and reinstalled Steam and L4D is still the ONLY game not working.

Alright, well now it takes and extremely long time to load a map, but once inside, it lags like crazy. I have a Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX, 3.0 Ghz Intel Quad Core, 4 Gigs of RAM and it still lags. It NEVER did this before. Like it's as if someone is trying to crawl but one of their arms got blown off and they can only see out of one eye. It's bad.
