Google Earth: Google Earth

I spent like 3 hours using Google Earth the other day checking out places all over the world. One of the first places I scanned over was Chernobyl. Just checking out how dead it was (no one living there/traffic). Very interesting.

Of course if you don't feel like downloading anything you can just search using: Google Maps

There is also: Live Local Search

Things like that are brilliant, I can't wait until in maybe a year or two they'll have (hopefully) things like that but updated every 5-10 minutes.

I tried that with Google Earth... Needless to say; I failed.

Note: I didn't actually do that... Well, that weekend a few weeks back is pretty blurry...

Why not Leroy?

Military and government agencies use almost real time imaging from satellites. Its only a matter of time before similar technology is made available to the public (notice how much military tech gets put into production for the public after it becomes obsolete?).

Highly doubt it, if they did it would be able to use for crimes then.

Lets say the were going to rob a bank they could have someonewatch it on satelite. They could spy on someone, and etc.

Say you want to rob a bank, you place a hidden, battery operated video camera there.

Video cameras are available to public yet they can be used for crime...

Still its to dangerous to let it be updated every 5 - 10 minutes for civilians to use. Thats one of the main reason the goverment won't do it.

The main reason I see for it not happening is that none of the satellites which take those sorts of images don't orbit the world in 5-10 minutes. They have to be in position to monitor things, which would mean if civilians had access then the military/government would have trouble getting them when they wanted and they aren't likely to build satellites simply for civilian uses...

Other than that its a nice fantasy
