It's pretty self exclamatory, reveiw a movie whether it be good or bad. It might be smart to state your age and gender so that people have a sense of what type of movies you might be into.
I will be putting one up later, but if anyone feels like doing one now, I'd like to see one of "Observe and Report" as I think it looks hilarious.
I have dibs on Coach Carter though. (I know it has been out for a while, but oh well)
Movie: Repo! The Genetic Opera
Genre of movie: Horror; Comedy; Musical
Spoiler:
Everyone knows I'm a huge fan of Repo, but why? Back in January my best friend linked me a video for "Zydrate Anatomy" and I fell in love. The movie is set in a few years time, 2030 to be exact, and there is a wide spread epidemic in America which causes organ failure. A single business has risen, to be a savior to the people. GeneCo. sells organs at "warehouse prices", and have set up payment plans to allow everyone to afford their organs. However, if you don't pay they send a Repo Man after you to cut out the organ you owe, repossessing body parts.
The idea behind the whole thing is scary, I did a paper and a speech on selling organs, and making it legal to sell body parts. Then seeing Repo really sent the message home, we could easily be in a time where selling organs is legal. The cast perform very well, many complain about Paris Hilton (she plays herself basically, a rich heiress who is constantly going against her father), but she's not too bad in this movie; in fact she almost performs perfectly. Anthony Head is killer in this movie, no pun intended, his performance as Nathan Wallace is simply amazing. He is able to switch emotions on the drop of a dime and makes the characters he plays believable (he plays the Repo man as well as a caring father; watch him talk to himself, the way he goes from Nathan to Repo is astounding!).
The music is very dark and very rock. The whole movie is dark, basically "gothic", and leaves and eerie feeling throughout. The songs are well written, music is well composed, and nearly every song will stick in your mind.
The themes are pulled off thanks to the lighting and camera angles. The times when there is light, or warm colors, are the short periods of time when something good, or appears to be good, is happening. The most color is seen at the Italian Renaissance, which is the one period of time the citizens are able to enjoy themselves safely.
This movie is often called the "new Rocky Horror Picture Show". And as a RHPS fanatic, I must say it comes close.
If you liked Rocky Horror, give Repo! a try. If you like rock music, blood and gore, gorgeous actors (I didn't get into Brightman but she is stunning!!) give it a watch.
I really like the way the movie was shown, like it was a news program, and slowly closed in on a military offcers story. im not to sure of his actual occupation. but I loved the Ending. I hope there is a sequal.
