Melee Weapons becoming a pain

Im getting fed up of idiots joining expert games and running around swinging a melee weapon. They also seem to think that having a melee weapon gives them license to run into everyone elses line of fire and not get shot.

Dont get me wrong its fun to go running into a hoard swinging a machete or whatever. But doing this on expert is crazy.
If you want to slice up the odd infected here and there fine, but running into a group of them is asking for trouble.

Pretty much, and in versus too. Instead of sniping the smoker from far, they run all the way with the machette to me and then melee, and sometimes missing because of all the zombies around him. By the time he's here I'm incapped.

If you use them right, Melee weapons can be win on Expert/Realism.

Most of the time it's just spamming them. That's why I use the pistols. ;D

I HATE pistols, they do no damage, takes like 6 shots to kill a single zombie, time wasting.

I've only played expert a few times, but it is frustrating trying not to shoot the fools running headlong into the horde, I agree with you Phil. If they communicate to me that they're gonna go melee, I can adjust and switch to my own melee, or place my shots more carefully, or simply shoot elsewhere.

This is also why I love laser sights. People pretty generally think twice before running in front of a laser, psychological reaction I think. Or common sense. ;D

I dont doubt that you are good with melee weapons, ive seen some people who are indeed very good with them. But sometimes you must think whether it would be better for the team, to whip out an axe or an automatic weapon.
Just use some common sense (and im not directing that at anyone, just in general)

I had to deal with a kid like that today. Not only was he complaining about begin shot, he was shooting me in the back ALL of the time even though I was crouched.

I haven't actually played much on Expert yet, so hopefully I won't succumb to this behavior. I doubt it though, since melee has been mostly my secondary choice. I switch to it whenever I've got a horde bearing down on me--that is, they're coming to me, not the other way around.

For my primary I mostly choose long range; usually I go with whatever rifle's lying around, especially the AK-47. The Kalashnikov is pretty much good all around for most things.

This stems from an old L4D rant about people running in front of others while they are shooting. Except melee weapons now give them an excuse to.

I say that if I'm crouching I'm aiming and if you run in front of me even with a melee weapon and get shot, it's your own fault. If I have a laser sight, I'm going to tell you you're an idiot for running in front of it. Pay attention especially in expert. I find that melee weapons are very useful for hordes on expert but other than that you should be using a gun (except for certain SI...like the charger).

Tack on realism and you get an even bigger headache.

Really? Cause i say anytime you step into any infected and melee your asking to get shot. You should be letting the infecteds come to you, everything else should be shot.

I would like to see a melee weapon cool down, at least in VS anyways.
Almost every horde is laughed at in L4D2 thanks to the melee weapons.

Barely anyone even uses pistols anymore, and why should they. IF your totally surrounded just start swingin a melee weapon and you safe in 2 seconds. You don't even have to cry for help. Boring.....

To be honest, if the rest of the group is crouching and getting ready to defend the position and you run out to engage the infected in hand to hand combat, I might just shoot you anyway to make a point.

This is exactly what I stated...if I'm crouching (aka holding ctrl for my keyboard) and I look like I'm aiming my gun at infected in the distance and you run in to those infected and get shot by me, it's your own damn fault.

Are we talking dual pistols and deagles or just dual pistols? If you are including the desert eagle in this generalization, I'd amend it. The desert eagle is one of the best weapons to be incapped. with. I've been able to successfully save teammates who get pounced/constricted when they go to save me as a result of the deagle's insane accuracy while incapped. In most cases the other 2 survivors are down so saving the one guy who is up from a pounce/smoker/charger/etc is insanely helpful...less you enjoy restarting maps.

The deagle also functions as a sniper rifle and is very accurate (albeit not as accurate as a real sniper rifle and with diminished clip size). In a horde event, deagle bullets pierce through zombies and can be just as effective as a melee weapon if used correctly with your push key.

But again, if you were talking about the default pistols only none of this applies. I rarely use the default pistols anymore as well...melee weapons are just that much more effective UNTIL you come to a deagle. :P

Melee weapons are really only good for when a boomer nails you or in the last level of the parish. IMO

Edit: I meant on Expert, of course.
