Just getting started

On startup
So I bought l4D for a friend for xmas and he's having trouble getting it to run, it crashes before anything loads up with the error that the game's encountering a problem and needs to close. I got him to verify the game cache and still the same problem, didn't have time to get him to do a reinstall.

He has 2 sound cards enabled, if he doesn't need both for some thing I'd recommend disabling the onboard (realtek) in his bios.
