Those directions are for increasing Virtual Memory, which you DO NOT want for gaming. What it does is create fake RAM on your hard drive which basically prevents programs from running out of memory and failing to run.
You must increase your actual RAM. Once you do that, your Virtual Memory should be 1.5 times the amount of physical memory. Usually you can leave that setting alone and Windows will handle it for you.
