Day 400

“Your going to be the death of me and the entire world Dahir, you crazy little guy.”
Day 400. Its been over a year since the plague hit us. At first the government contained it in rural areas but one faithful day exactly 300 days ago 1 person who was bitten sneaked into a large refugee camp and it spread. This is the new bubonic plague.
But me my family and some friends bunkered down in our house with enough food and supplies to last us a year. We awaited rescue, it never came. We knew we needed more supplies, but were reluctant to go outside. Finally one day my older sister Maryam was brave enough to walk up to my father and say “I am the eldest of my generation, I am the fastest and I am the best suited for this mission, so if anyone should go outside it should be Bile!”
“What?!?!?!?!?” I screamed. “You aren’t really thinking about sending me out there by myself. It would be suicide! I am not going to die because my older sister is to cowardly to go outside.”
“Then your other sister will go with you”, said my father. “Amal come down here. You and Bile are going scavenging for food.”
“Ok”, said Amal, “I’ve been bored in here anyway. Also you must give us guns.”
“Ok”, said my dad, “but only you get a gun, I don’t trust you enough Bile.”
The next day.
“Are you sure your prepared”, asks my mother for the 5 billionth time.
“Yes we have everything we need”, I respond.
We head out and I close the door uncaringly. We trek threw the backyard into the field and we don’t see and of them so we continue but when we walk by the playground we 60 or 70 of them. I turn to my sister and ask her “do you remember the pact we made?”
It took her a couple moments to process the fact that there could be so many in one place, just lounging around. Then she finally responded “yes” in a hushed whisper. At that moment every single infected turned around and looked at us. We ran separate ways away from the infected but they all chased after me. My typical luck.
But then as I was getting tired I saw a small alleyway. Perfect I thought, but just then a group of them jumped out and when I was about to turn around I noticed they had guns. Then one of the yelled “get over here and hide in the alley with the other, quickly!”
I was so shocked to find other survivors that all I could do was obey this simple orders. I noticed on their face they weren’t afraid 2 of the 4 were actually grinning.
In the alley there were 3 others none of them had guns but 1 had a stick of dynamite. Then the guy with the dynamite ran straight at the infected but before he could throw it a long tongue grabbed onto him and dragged him to a big black cloud near the play ground. One of the dudes with guns was about to run after him when the guy I guessed was their leader said “its to late for him, before the cloud came up I saw a boomer and the smoker, soon there will be hundreds of them here so, we have to fall back to base.”
Everyone else acknowledged this with a nod. The things that happened that day will linger in my mind for the rest of my measly life. A man had died to save me. I quietly walked with them till we got to a pool. Their leader who I discovered name was while I was ease dropping on their conversations name was Dylan. Unlocked a door that lead threw a chain fence the unlocked a maintenance door that turned out to be 8 inches thick. Inside was a little bunker a pool. When they gave me a little to eat and drink I told them about my self and my family and friends and they told me that the 4 of them with guns were part of a military unit that was assigned to protect this city but they failed. One of the others was a doctor and the other a mailman.
I said “thanks for the food, water and saving my rear end but I have to go back to my family.” They said it was to dangerous for me to go and I considered this a logical reason to stay a little while but that I had to go home soon. Then I remembered that I forgot to lock the door properly, which means that since hundreds of infected have attacked there my family is in grave danger and the fate of my dear sister is still unknown all this going to threw my head caused me to pass out for several hours.
When I awoke they said they would take me home because infected activity had dulled in the area so it was safe enough to go now. When we reached my house the door and windows were all broken and there was blood everywhere and their were bodies everywhere. I wept for my family but I did not see the body of my little brother Dahir. I searched high and low and finally only had the panic room to check. In there lay my brother sound asleep and not harmed in any way.
When he woke up he told me that our older sister Maryam had given her life to save his. This only made us sob more. The only thing left to do was find Amal. But when we turned around only Dylan and his second in command Kyle were there. They said the other were to afraid and ran away.
When we left the house we found out the fate of my father he was in the backyard. He was what they called a tank now. We had already raided the armoury inside the house so we all had guns except Dahir. I sent him and Kyle to hide in the bunker. So now it was just me and Dylan against my dad.
He hadn’t noticed us yet so I took the first shot. I took out my dad hunting rifle aimed for the head and shot. He staggered, then turned and charged we shot all the bullets we had except for 1 I had in my pistol. We continued on; on the path my sister had most likely taken finally found a dark police station. We went inside and found her after roaming the halls for a few hours. It was completely dark and she was lying on the ground moaning and wailing when I heard Dylan quietly whisper “oh my god. She’s turned into a witch.”
I asked him “what’s a witch?”
Dylan’s answers by saying “the most powerful infected that exists, it killed 23 of my group when we were a group of 30.”
Dylan flashed his light on where she had been, but she wasn’t there anymore. SHE WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM! I ran
as Dylan’s body dropped to the ground in 1 swipe. He was dead
. I kept on running till if fell into a dark hole. I looked around and couldn’t even see my own hand I turned on my flashlight but the battery was almost dead so I couldn’t see far but I could hear many growls coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. There must’ve been hundreds of them. I was surrounded I looked up and saw Amal’s face.
