Zombie MMO

While searching around some zombie sites I came across a link to an in-development MMO called: Z Day.

Z Day is an Online 3D FPS Zombie Survival game (also known as a "MMOFPS"). You and every other player is placed into a city overrun by the infected aka zombies. The infected can run, faster than you can meaning you alone, are no match for the strong, fast infected.

If you do not eat, you will become very weak and slow and start to die. If you happen to get infected, your blood will begin to turn black and you will also get slow and weak from the virus. You must find an anti-virus to cure the infection, before it's too late.

You will be able to choose from either a Police Officer or a Civilian. As a police officer, you will start with a Baton and a firearm. As a civilian, you will start with only a baseball bat, but will be able to carry more items than the police. So you will want a balance between the two for supply runs.

Use your survival instincts, build a survivors' base, form a search party to go out on supply runs for food, wood, anti-viruses, weapons, more survivors etc. Gather up, meet friends and work together for survival...Teamwork is a must...

By watching the video it reminds me (look wise) of Portal 2. Now thats nothing 'next-gen' but if it's an MMO, filled with Zombies, I'm defiantly game!

This game does look promising indeed. I like its potential and I'm usually a rabid anti-MMORPG person.
I can't wait to see how the actual gameplay handles.

It doesn't look much though does it? I mean, it's not the best looking thing out there. I'd expected better.

It is a WIP and I think (as I've yet to do any concrete research) it's being developed by amateur game developers, so you can't really expect anything. This isn't Valve working on this.

Well it isn't an MMORPG, it's an MMOFPS. Meaning instead of map objectives there is just one large map/world and the objective is to survive.

This isn't going to be a game about graphics. It's going to be a game about Zombies and trying to survive a zombie infestation without maps, missions, etc, just one world (or city more like). I guess you can say it's like a simulator for what it would be like if your city was under a zombie infestation and you had to survive. Thats it's purpose.

Games like Left 4 Dead will require map changes, loading of new maps, different game types, etc. This game has one purpose. Survive in a massive environment (large city no doubt) from the zombie infestation. You can block doors, group up and survive with other players, etc. I'm really hoping these guys get this game finished and up and running. Definitely want to check this out.

Don't get me wrong, the idea sounds incredible. Remember we were discussing an IaL game once? It was a similar format. I'm an oldie. By no means to graphics = great games. I guess I've just been spoilt recently. Looking forward to trying it out.

I had an idea like this once...

"My Next game Idea is also a MMO TPS where you wake up after a zombie holocaust / Armageddon where you realize that and form of order is gone and anarchy in the streets you must team up with other players in order to forum new towns, cities, or bases in order to survive. as you base grows larger it will attract more zombies too it because the larger concentration of human flesh! You may also want to beef up your defense in order to stop another guild from raiding your town and stealing your resources. When the server starts you will be able to scavenge for most of your material but over time they will start to run out."

thought it be cool on xbox live personally.

That's the only problem I see... Unless you're going to have a server restart after X amount of time people are going to get pissed off that there isn't any stuff any more.

People please hear me out.This was only Zday in its very and imean VERY early developing stages. Check it out for yourself. www.zdaygame.com I am a member of there forums, and I know that Zday is almost nothing like the description that this subject. And these are not amatuer (might have spelled wrong) developers. There is an entire team, and there are 100's, possibly 1000's of people that are loyal to this game and I am one of them. This is an incredible survival MMO with signifigant updates over the past months.

Classes: Military, survivalist, engineer, civillian, and much more!
Graphics: (not explaining video cards needed) highly detailed and created desighns, NEW: Torque game engine has been added which meens serious graphic and detailing improvements, less lag, and more fun.
basics: You must act like a real human would do, find shelter, you have to acshualy eat food to survive, find ammo, find any other survivors (meaning acshual players) and even interact NPC characters: hostile, friendly, supply trade, safe guides to get you to areas without dieing, and more.
zombies: fast, slow, dont stop till they find you or are dead, spread the virus, and recommended you work with survivors as a team. (NOTE: you cannot acshualy become a zombie, for if u get hit by a zombie theres a chance youl be infected and will therefore loose health over time and need to find a cure that was made by (scientist class or medic class i forgot sorry.) and can possibly bought by tradsemen NPC's. If you die your body will become a zombie. But a corpse of your character will remain left in that area for about 10 minuts so that way you can run to it and re-loot it.
Level system: you can acshualy gain levels and put points into skills you might think youl need to get stronger and survive. (this does not meen anything like magic or stamina, as it just meens skills in handeling weapons, like pistols, machine guns, shotguns, etc.

And sorry if this looks like advertisement for a mmo but this has got to be the best zombie (besides left 4 dead) game ive ever seen! Its a total all out survival MMOFPS. and its halfway through development, once again heres the web addres www.zdaygame.com (Warning: This site recommends that you do not use firefox, ive tried it and i had major issues with loging into there forums.)

Please keep in mind that this thread was created on January 17th, 2008. Whatever information is in the original post was information gathered at that time. So if it's incorrect at present, which it seems to be, it's because the website (ZDay) and it's About page have been updated since the time that this thread was created.

there was one of these being developed by (i can't remember who ATM) that got "put on hold" a while back called Exanimus online. It was gonna be a fully 3D Zombie MMOFPS. They SAY that they intend to develop it after "internal and external factors" are taken care of, so I dunno what that means for it. Some of the stuff they had up on it looked really sweet, though.

They are planning and are intending to make this game a free mmofps.
But of coarse they have acshualy given a little thought about being payed for, but i highly doubt thats going to happen.

but to just answer the question, yes. It will be totally free, no in-game purchasing and subscription. (by the way, when i meen in-game purchasing for those of you who dont know, i mean spending real life money to buy weapon. its all done by trade of supplies, though i dont know if there will be in-game money or not. Example: kill a zombie and get ten ((fake)) dollars off of it. Im not to sure about currency.
