Valve Confirms Left 4 Dead Demo

Gabe Newell, managing director and co-founder of Valve, has confirmed plans for an Xbox 360 and PC demo of hotly anticipated zombie shoot-em-up Left 4 Dead.

Newell told VideoGamer.com at Leipzig Games Convention that it will include the first part of one of the four campaign 'movies', probably The Hospital level that has been demonstrated to the press.

He also confirmed that the demo will facilitate online cooperative play as well as single-player, although he couldn't confirm a release date for the demo.

Most demos are released before the final product. Normally a week before, but it's not always the case. Here's hoping it is in this case though!

Being Valve, I'm expecting a post-release demo, same sort of thing they did with Half-Life 2.

So essentially a demo for L4D post-release would have to be a guest pass.

My guess is that any demo will be a single scenario (or part of one) in which you can only play single player... Or somesuch like that.

Valve will find a way, they tend to be good at that

Indeed - I guess it will be a single player version, cheating would be a big issue if it was not.

Possibly playable co-op online.

They won't put online in the demo, and if they do it will have a limited timespan.

If they put it in people can just download that and play it with their friends without buying the game.

It's been confirmed that the demo will have an online option.
